About

THE NWA TRANSPARENCY PROJECT

The NWA Transparency Project is an independent public-interest initiative dedicated to collecting, organizing, preserving, and publishing public records, timelines, correspondence, court filings, environmental documentation, development records, and other materials relating to matters affecting communities throughout Northwest Arkansas.

The project was established after our family’s experience living adjacent to major residential development activity in Elkins, Arkansas. As nearby residents, we began documenting site conditions, drainage concerns, stormwater issues, detention pond questions, infrastructure matters, regulatory activity, and other issues affecting our neighborhood.

What began as a handful of observations quickly expanded into public-record requests, agency correspondence, environmental documentation, chronology development, and ongoing legal proceedings concerning access to public records.

Throughout that process, one challenge became increasingly apparent: information was scattered across numerous agencies, departments, public-record requests, emails, reports, court filings, and government records. Understanding the complete picture often required collecting information from multiple sources and reviewing hundreds or thousands of pages of documents.

The NWA Transparency Project was created to help solve that problem.

OUR MISSION

The mission of the NWA Transparency Project is to:

• Promote government transparency

• Improve public access to records

• Preserve important public documents

• Organize complex timelines and records

• Support informed civic engagement

• Encourage evidence-based discussion of public issues

• Provide educational resources regarding public records and FOIA processes

WHAT MAKES THIS PROJECT DIFFERENT

This project focuses on source documents whenever possible.

Rather than relying on summaries, opinions, rumors, or social-media discussions, this website seeks to make underlying records available for public review.

Whenever possible, timelines, correspondence, photographs, reports, court filings, meeting records, and related documents are provided so visitors may review the materials for themselves.

OUR APPROACH

The purpose of this website is not to tell readers what conclusions they should reach.

The purpose of this website is to:

• Preserve records

• Organize information

• Build historical timelines

• Improve public access to documents

• Provide context where needed

• Encourage transparency

Visitors are encouraged to review the records, examine the timelines, evaluate the evidence, and draw their own conclusions.
